How do I merge 2 inboxes?
If both accounts are currently active, then all messages can be forwarded. That is if you don't have thousands of them.
Importing to OE might not work the way you figured it would, and all of my previous attempts to import messages into another account caused the existing inbox to be replaced instead of being merged with the other messages.
I got tired of losing all my messages, so I started copying all the DBX files in the old account to a separate folder as a backup, and imported the entire folder into OE (usually located on another computer).
In the account you want to import to, you can rename the inbox to some other name that is not being used already, such as Inbox2 (or anything else).
Lead OE to you backup account and import. Now both folders will appear, and all you need to do is transfer the messages from one folder to the other, usually to the Inbox, and then delete Inbox2. You can also keep them separate, but OE does not work with Inbox2 the same as it does with Inbox.
Likewise, any duplicate named folders will also be overwritten when importing, so if you have several folders in both accounts with identical names, then rename them all before importing, or they will be lost. I just add a 2 to end of each folder in the account I am importing to. After import, the files can be dragged to the folder you want to keep, and delete the other.
Too confusing? Maybe one of the gurus has a better way.
This works wonders for me, but will probably never find these instructions anywhere else in a million years... :)
I did it by creating a folder in OE, replacing the associated .dbx file with the one I wanted, & then copying and pasting the contents into the inbox. I then deleted the new folder.
