Right now I am using a Intel P4 2.4ghz and a Asus P4PE motherboard with onboard Lan and firewire. My wife needs this PC for her new job and I want to build a new PC for myself using a P4 processor and a Asus motheboard....same setup i have had for my last three PC's. What is the newest sytle P4 out and Asus board that will run it. It seems like they are changing this stuff so often I can't come close to keeping up.

Because you just may want to get away from those slow running P4's.
So what you do / want to do, can make a difference in what setup you may want to investigate.
Well I do just about everything from Gaming to video editing and everything in between. I respect your opinion that the P4 are slow but I bet its 50/50 across the board on what processor people prefer. Maybe I am just stuck in the old days? If an Athlon processor is the way to go for what I want to do with it then I am willing to change. However I have always like the Asus boards and would hope they make a good board for a Athlon processor?
There's quite a few excellent Asus board for Athlon 64's, with the newest architecture of the 64's being 939 pin CPU's, the Socket 939 boards are vast, and you'll be spoilt for choice, one example being: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...&Sku=A455-2112 Obviously building around a budget is usually the first thing to consider, do you have one in mind?

I never had an AMD before and like you, only have Pentium. But from my recent research, the next computer I build next month will be an AMD X2.Quote:

In what reference are you talking about Train?
MaximumPC magazine which is a US publication does reviews on new computer stuff.
They did a article on dual Optrions [spelled wrong] for August and then in Septembers issue, the did a review on a AMD 64 X2 [if I remember right] {not anywhere near home right now} and they did some bench marks. One of them was a video conversion of 8 minutes. Now I have no idea of the size of the file they used, the time factor did get my attention. Rememeber 2 1/2 hours real well to do that type of thing.
Good Point, i assumed A64's, but if your budget is large, a X2 could be in order, maybe a 4200+.:)
