Wireless Network install problem

I am having a BIG problem trying to install a wireless network. I have a Belkin Wireless USB Network Adapter F506050 and I am unable to install and make it work with the included software. I did have it working at one time but it failed after a short time. I am trying to connect with my new notebook with built in wireless access, Windows XP Home. I have tried SEVERAL times to make it work with the included software but it fails every time except the one time so I know it is capable of working?

AMD Athlon XP 2400+ 2.00 GHz, 512 MB of Ram...

Did you try it with windows own wireless application rather then belkins.When you say it failed what happened and did you allow access through your firewall?

What kind of wireless device are you trying to connect to (brand and model of the router/access point)?

Is WEP Security turned on?

Does the router/access point broadcast it's SSID?

Yes I tried windows wireless application, no luck. I have a dialup connection and I want to be able to connect my notebook and desktop with Belkins Network Adapter. When using Belkins software I am able to get a connection but my notebook will not connect to it for some reason

Belkin is not a router it is a Network Adapter. I have to admit I am totally ignorant when it comes to this subject. I am so used to Win XP Pro setting things up for me that I get lost when something like this happens.

Without a router you can configure the network adapters in Ad-hoc mode and enable Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on the host computer. If you are using a third party utility (eg; Belkins software) then make sure the Windows XP Wireless Auto configuration is disabled so it is not conflicting between it's built in service.

I give up. It drives me crazy not being able to fix this problem...

I feel there is much more that needs to be done. It's hard to provide any additonal information without knowing or knowing what the problems you are having. What are you having problems with? Maybe you can explain the steps you have taken or provide screenshots.

I have installed the Belkin hardware and software according to direction's. It shows that I have a working connection yet my notebook with built in wireless access does not connect to wireless point. I did have it working at one time but after a re-boot it no longer worked and I have not been able to get it to work again... I have tried lots of different combinations and nothing works...

Did you turn of any encryption or WAP settings on the receiver to see if it clears the problem.You might also disable any firewalls momentarily to see if the connection persists.

Did all that still no work...

Since you are using Belkins software to configure the wireless network, make sure you disable the wireless service into Windows XP.

1. Right-click My Network Places and choose Properties.
2. When the “Network Connections” window opens, right click on your Wireless Network Connection icon and select the Properties option.
3. Uncheck "Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings" checkbox. Then close out.

Then disable the Wireless Auto Configuration.

1. Click Start, Run and type services.msc
2. Scroll down to Wireless Zero Configuration and make sure the service status is stopped and is disabled.

Then use the Belkins software to configure the wireless connection. If it helps you, provide some screen shots. If you can provide any additional information, that will help us help you better.

I am trying to setup a Ad-hoc connection and it seems the problem is the way my laptop is configured? What do I have to do to make it work :confused:

Please reply with more information to help us understand the problem. What did you do and configure on the laptop?

I pushed the wireless activation button and then ask it to find any wireless source. It found my Belkin adapter setup and says it has a good connection but when I try to access it nothing happens...
