weird graphics problem

I have a ASUS geforce fx 5200 agp card with a ASUS P4P800 SE motherboard. For some reason, random red and green boxes appear on the screen when I open menus, close windows, and do other normal stuff. I have tried everything including various different resolutions, 16 bit color and 32 bit color and the latest driver (77.72 i think). I even tried the older 71.89 hearing it was more stable, but to no avail. Now I am using 61.72 which came with the graphics card and it seems to be doing ok. However, I am not comfortable with this problem and am hoping someone else faced a similar situation.

If it's working okay on the older driver, the problem you faced could be that newer drivers are made for the newer cards, ie, FX6600 and up. Just to add, newer is not always better. If you're graphics card was working fine under the driver you initially had, there is no need to change it.
