CPU hotter then before

I have a AMD 64 3400+, and it was overclocked 10%, core at 1.5v

when I first did it, I was getting good stablity, and good temperatures
about 35 (I think, it was about 100F) degress C at idle, and about 54 on full load

a few nights ago I installed Battlefield 2, and I try to play it and I was getting crashes, and thats when I noticed my CPU temp was higher then before.
I am getting 44C on idle while overclocking and about 40 w/o.; don't want to know what my load temps are..
also, my core is set at 1.5v but everest reports it as ~1.45v sometimes..

what could cause this increase?.., fan RPM's are good, ect.

The CPU is just working harder. What graphics card are you using? The more powerful the card, the less the CPU has to work. You are overclocking.....are you using the stock cooler or a (better) 3rd party cooler? Stock coolers are generally mediocre when it comes to cooling an overclocked CPU. Are you using a thermal pad on the heatsink or thermal paste? Paste is generally more effective. Are you running background programs while playing the game? Turn them off...including the antivirus program. Turn off the desktop background also.....this might help a little.

what I mean is that a month ago, I was getting 36ish during idle and now I am getting 45ish during idle..

when playing games I turn everything off, including explorer, ect.

I have a ZALMAN fan, all copper, thermal paiste

What is the room temperature?
Bet it has gone up in the last couple months.
That can make a aworld of differnce.

Do you have case fans?

Have you cleaned the dust and stuff out lately?

the room temperature is the same compared with the last few months, A/C is on most of the time..., the case temp is 26C
I have 5 case fans, running slowly at ~2000 RPM, I ran them at 4800 for a while to see if that would help, and it didn't.., case temp went down bout a degree...

the dust hasn't been cleaned out.., but it was cleaned out at the last LAN party I went to.., about 2 or 3 months ago

a friend of mine suggested I rethermalpaiste my CPU.., could this help?

Wouldn't hurt at this juncture. I recommend using Arctic Silver 5 thermal paste. Remember: apply just enough to cover the core of the chip with a very thin film..."paint" it if you will.

Were these same fans running on the system before? Same type of cooler? May be that if you are running a side panel fan that it is actually interfering with the CPU cooler's airflow. In some cases, having more fans can actually be detrimental....the airflow gets all scrambled up and becomes less efficient.

I havent changed any of the fans or anything..
the only thing I have added since I noticed the change is a wireless 802.11g card, I also bought a IDE to USB adapter that I have plugged in all the time.., thats it..

I will see about ordering some paiste from newegg..

Very important to remove all traces of any body oil that may have sneaked onto the slug also...

well.., I fixed my problem..
when I was having the heat problem, I hadn't used the computer for a week.., ussually its on for hours a day
now the thing has been on for 3 days straight and temperatures are back to normal.. nothing else has changed...

anyone have any idea why this is?
doesn't make too much sence to me..

It could have been a software gltch. What were you using to measure the temps?
