What program was it encrypted with ?
Can you not just ask your friend to send it plain text ?
Are you absolutely sure it was sent by your friend ? Are you expecting an email with attachments from him?
Have you scanned the attachments for virii ? Just because it looks like its a text file or even ends in .txt , that does not mean it is a text file ..
If you need to translate Spanish to English, you might try Google's Translate:
http://www.google.com/language_tools?hl=en
(Copy the text from your attachment, paste it into Google's Translate box, select "from Spanish to English", then click the Translate button).
What do I need to do to translate to plain text?,
Is there a program missing in my system?,
I'm running XP and my e-mail serv. is Hotmail.
Thank you
MIME is an acronym for "Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions." It is an encoding scheme (of which there are many) used to send non-text files over the Internet. So, in order to read a MIME file, you'll need special software to "decode" the attachment.
Look in the message header for the "MIME-Version:", "Content-type:" and the "Content-Transfer-Encoding:" fields and let us know what they contain. (For example, "MIME-Version: 1.0", "Content-type: image/tiff" and "Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64").
Hopefully, with that information we may be able to help.
name="Hijos.pps"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="Hijos.pps"
that was the header for the last part of the message which is the biggest one, there are probably some pictures in it. Also the first part of it is:
Content-Type: message/rfc822
Thank you.
dawkid--To be extra careful, I would email you friend to confirm that he indeed has sent you to emails and the attachments.
Hijos.pps means it should be a PowerPoint Slide show of his children. If you do not have PowerPoint on your PC, download the free PowerPoint Viewer.

P.S. Thought you said the attachment was a .txt file.
