unknown wire
hi,
i have recently changed my power supply unit and when i put my new one in i couldn't remember where all the wires went! stupid me, lol. well i think i managed to get them all in the correct place but there is one wire which I’m sure was connected but i don't know where.
i have attached a photo of it for you to look at (sorry about the poor quality of the pic). i put a 20p coin next to it so you could see it's size but if your not English that doesn’t help much. lol. Well anyway it's about 1cm long and has 4 pins. The only place i have found a connector it plugs into is on my firewire card but i know that’s not where it was originally connected. So if you could give me a clue I would be grateful, thanks.

Hi,
From the picture it looks like a small power supply connection.
Your PSU will have several of the normal Molex connectors and may have some additional smaller ones for smaller devices.
It could have come from a Firewire card to provide a power output on the card to Firewire devices that need a power supply.
Check out the spec on the firewire card to see if it has a power in connector. If so then this is a likely place.

Well my computer seems to be running fine, minus the graphics card, so i might just leave it and assume it was doing nothing anyway. Either that or wait till something goes bag! lol

Perhaps it is a floppy connector too. Looks that way to me anyway. The photo is kind of fuzzy and my eye site's not up to snuff, but it sure looks like a floppy power connector.

Well i think i already have a 3pin connector that looks very similar to the picture in the floppy drive, and it seems to be working ok. So i don't think it's that. Good guess though.

Many PSU's come with more than one power connector for the floppy drive. A' bit clearer pic:

Does this look like yours? If so,probably just a spare. :)

Not all connectors from the PSU are actually used, unless you have a lot of devices, so don't worry about having left over connections without having anything to plug them into. I'd say that is almost certainly a spare floppy connector, most PSU's come with 2.

well it does look like that picture posted so i assume it's for the floopy. cheers for the advice as i don't have to worry about it anymore.
