main power fuses blowing
Hi fellow vdr'ers...My m8 has got a prob...Every so often his fuse in the plug for his PC will blow...thats the plug to the PSU TOWER. He has changed the PSU but it is still doing it....Any ideas as to what could be causeing this.....
He did Re-format earlier to re-install xp pro with sp2 intergrated but the fuse blew again, twice...Hope you can come up with an answer soon..
Many Thanks...

get a line tester, see what amps/power is coming across the electric outlet.
i don't think its a pc problem
-
THANKS UPPERCRUST-----that is what i have been telling him for over a week.....i will tell him to get his electrics checked out..
-
P.S-----no other appliance is blowing though...everything else is working ok.

It is almost certainly not a problem with the house wiring if it's causing the plug fuse to blow. The first thing I would do is replace the "kettle lead" between the socket and the power supply, it may have some damaged insulation inside. Especially as you have already chnaged the PSU, which would have been the next suspect.

Thanks Supersparks---Already told him to do that, but he's Impatiant n has droped it off at the PC Repair shop...Wonder if they will try a new lead!!---I even wonder if they will find the Prob....I reckon they will tell him it's the Mobo gone faulty!....
I will let ya know what it was, if they find what it is that's causeing it..
P.S---Mate has just informed me on phone that the lead has been changed 3 times....Rules that un out..
CHEERS....

5 amp fuses is what he uses.....He thinks it's the Board so took it into shop..
Will let you know if they find whats causeing it..
-
Cant see it being the board as this would just blow the fuse in the power supply this seems a wierd one.

I would have probably put a 10 amp fuse in it and been done with it especially if the psu is current limited.

PC shop is still checking it out...
