Mornin` :)
Try this first
Go to Start/RUN
Type
C:\windows\inf\srchasst.inf
Right click on it and choose install.
You may need your install CD.
Then go to Start/RUN
Copy and paste the following
regsvr32 C:\WINDOWS\srchasst\srchui.dll
Click OK
NOTE
If Windows is not installed on C:, change C: to the drive letter windows is installed on first.
Elaine :)
Thanks for the suggestion Elaine. I did as suggested. Didn't work. Rebooted, still didn't work. Granted, M$ search technology ain't the best, but it is better than nothing at all. I use it for, among other things, if ZA pops up a program alert that I am not familiar with so that I can find out exactly what program is wanting internet access.

Hi, Elaine's fix usually does the trick. Try disabling the indexing service it can cause search to freeze. Go to Start/Administrative Tools/Services. Double click Services and find the Indexing Service. Double click/properties/Stop. From the Status Type Box, select Disabled.
I'll try that, thanx a bunch.
rednek tek--Of course it is not a good feeling to have a Windows function not work, but a workaround, if nothing else works, would be to install Agent Ransack.
