rp12533,
There are many different ways of doing what you want to do. Some are relatively inexpensive and others are very expensive. It all depends on the quality of the finished product you desire. I have done it my self and while once you have everything setup, it's fairly easy, but I found it to be extremely time consuming, for you will have to input, at minimum, the artist and track title for each track.
Do a google search on "converting tapes to mp3" and you will find many sites dedicated to doing just what you want to do. Here's one to get you started.
Good luck.

Hi
Just want to give a thumbs up for Total Recorder. I bought this program years ago, and have used it often. It is well worth the resonable price. Total Recorder default output is a wave file which may be rather large. If you download a MP3 encoder such as Lame or Blabe , and set the options it will save as MP3 which saves quitye a bit of space on size of files. I have done what you are seeking many times over the last few years. If you need any more help , feel free to PM me .

It's really way too late here to get into a big post... so, the short version: Running a Pioneer turntable and cassette deck through the Pioneer receiver, that's output to my line-in jack ... Use Audacity (free) or Goldwave (not free) to monitor and record that input ... use the Lame encoder in both to go to MP3, or you can pull the WAV's into CDex for same result ... and there ya go. O.K., there's more regarding the twitches and tweaks of it all but like I said, way too late to expand. I'll be around though...

Nice offer (but you might want to ask how many hours of music he has to convert. Since it all has to be done in real time a box of 12 C90 cassettes is a looong time :) )
