Issue with IE 5.5 under new board?

Has something changed? I have machines with both IE 6 and IE 5.5 (various OSes). Up until this afternoon on the IE 5.5 machines if I went in to REPLY to thread the previous posts/replies for the thread appeared under the reply box (under the TOPIC REVIEW bar). Now that's not the case (nothing is there). I swear as of this morning (and certainly before that since the change) this all was fine. But suddenly these (the other posts/replies) are not there. I checked on 2 machines with 5.5 just confirm and both have the problem. Everything is fine with IE 6 as the browser.

Did something change today (and which may be mentioned somewhere else that I missed)?

No changes that im aware of, if you are talking about the quick reply window, the previous posts have never been there, they only appear under the regular reply window. BJ

Not quick reply BJ, regular reply. I'm hoping someone can confirm or not whether they now see what it appears I'm seeing.

OK. But specifically I'm looking for feedback from people using IE 5.5.

Doc I see (or don't see) the same as you. with IE5.01 the posts that are normally under the regular reply, are no longer there(gone)....but the topic review bar is there, just no copy of the posts. :confused: .....however, in FFox 1.02 all is the same as it is normally, I see the posts.

edit: just saw your post Doc about 'IE5.5', must have misread it before. anyway fwiw it isn't working properly in IE5.01 either.

Thanks Poppy for confirming what I am seeing. I swear this was working up until some point after the upgrade (ie. even after the upgrade it did work).

I just went over to the Datamation forums (a sister site like ours) and ran a test (same machine, IE 5.5). There the REPLY screen worked as it should (and use to). So something is now different here it would seem.

I have continuously noticed little 'amomalies' between IE and FF and then they usually come right after a while....so I just chalk it up to JP's tweaking the site.......

I'm done tweaking. Haven't tweaked lately. Why is anyone still using IE 5.5? That was one of the buggiest versions ever

I have 5.5 on certain machines. Totally updated, bug free, never had a problem. It worked before here. It works at Datamation now.

5.5 has CSS support problems, I mean even for IE. We all know IE's CSS support is extremely poor, but 5.5 was the poster child for it.

If two or more computers with IE 5.5 now cannot see the threads under reply, the software has changed for whatever reason.

I can call up one of my other computers and check it out if you all need it but with one of poppy's and two of DRMDJ's showing the same reasult should be conclusive.

JP, there are a number of people that still use older systems and software for various reasons. I am aware of two gentlemen using WIN95 computers for their bussinesses. Reason - if they work for what they need why change. In larger companies CoBal is being used still and there is a need for Cobal IT people now.

The Lotus Suite is also still used.

That's why programming can be tough to cover as there are alot of considerations out there in cyber space to think about.

Type in QBasic and see what you come up with. Now that's old.

Older configurations are used for some of the older popular games also.

Manufacturers try to get everyone to change but it is not done and in larger numbers than one would suspect.

Just checked at codeguru forum, and there (like at datamation) IE 5.5 works fine (normal) during replies. Doesn't this suggest that there is something here now at vdr that is not quite right???

The other forums, when upgraded, imported the older templates which contain now antiquated coding. On this fprum and the link I gave you, I started with fresh templates in order to lose the antiquated coding. There are methods that were used in the past that are now slated for obsolescence (called "deprecated" methods). We have to move beyond them because sooner or later browsers will cease supporting them altogther.

OK, I just tested over at small business computing forum and it works fine there too. Now can we say something not right here?
