Power supply question
Go a PC with maybe a PS problem.
It runs all the fans, it's own fan, processor fan, extra case fan.
It runs some lights on the front of the PC but they stay solid like the HD light.
It will not eject any drives and doesn't seem to spin the HD.
Could this be a PS with some blown capacitors that are not strong enough to complete it's job?
I unplugged all items except for fans and one CD drive and would still not open up the drive.
So, do I need a new PS?
It is a 300W.
I tried a 200W because I had one and this one did the same as the 300W. Lights, fan but not drive ejecting.

Only way to find out is to try a new PSU.
You could also try clearing the Bios by using the jumper, or removing the Mobo battery for a few minutes.
-
Bear in mind this could be a motherboard fault as well by the sounds of things...
-
That doesn't sound like a PSU problem to me. Fans and the hard drive motor are both run off the 12volt rail, so the fact that you have one but not the other tends to point elsewhere. Bad motherboards would be my most likely suspect.
-
Well if the mobo was bad then the PS would still make the cd drives open the doors and spin the hard drive even though the data cable was disconnected right?
I had the PS checked at a pc shop and it looked good.
Got three fans and some front lights running. No post, drive doors, or HD spinning.
Wouldn't the ps spin the hd and open the doors?
-
Not necessarily. Everything goes through the motherboard, and a mobo fault could certainly prevent the HDD spinning up or the doors opening.

Sounds smilar to what was happening with my brothers PC after he short circuited it by trying to stick the wrong end of a usb cable into a USB slot.
Ended up being the Mobo and CPU.
I'd try and fnd the thread but the search doesn't seem to be working too well ??
It was called Spark Causes System Shutdown or soemthing to that effect, if I can find it I'll post a link.

Try removing the IDE cable and then see if the CD draw opens.
-
Took off the data cables and both drives open. I don't even have the cmos battery in right now. Just power to all items and mobo and just took the data cables off of the cdrw and cd drive and they now both open.
So now I will try to take the data cable off the hd and see if it spins.
So what could this mean?

I'd say that's bad news, it looks like your PSU is probably OK.
Disconnect as much hardware as possible, if still no joy you've gotta suspect the Motherboard
