Hi!
I have connected a new s-ata Maxtor HDD to the first sata connector of an asus p4p800s motherboard. The bios recognizes it as third master.I want it to be recognized as first slave since I have an ata Maxtor HDD as first master. The bios is updated, OS is Windows XP pro SP2. I have tried to change the bios ide port settings, but it was a flop.

There is no Master or Slave setting with SATA drives, as each one is on their own channel - so the BIOS will report any SATA drive as Master, even though the term is meaningless. You should be able to change the boot order in the BIOS without any trouble, if that's what you want to do, look in "Advanced BIOS Settings" or similar.
Thank you for your reply. It's true that being recognized as third master doesn't matter as long as the drive is recognized by Windows and works all right. It's just a llittle strange to see it recognized like this as I am not used to s-ata drives and always tend to be somewhat worried about data processing.
