I have a Presario 1255 notebook that is VERY SLOW, it only has 32 meg of internal memory. I would like to know if I add the max 128 meg for a total of 160, if it will make a noticeable difference…
If not what

Yes, it will make a noticeable difference. I recently worked on a Toshiba in a similar situation and upped the memory and it was definately worthwhile.
Good luck---
ditto...
anything up to 256meg will make big differences, but no reason to go beyond 256 for Win98.
The memory site for your Compaq Presario 1255 laptop is located here.
Your laptop comes with 32 MB of RAM, but supports up to 160 MB of RAM. Since it only has 1 RAM slot and I've never heard of a 160 MB module, you can replace the 32 MB module with a 128 MB module. The speed and overall performance boost should be quite noticable.
I believe you'll find your memory slot empty. That 32 meg is on board memory. Adding a 128 to the empty slot will being you to the max. of 160. Well worthwhile--go for it!!
It will seem like a different laptop. Definately upgrade.Quote:

"On-board" RAM? That's a new one on me. I guess I haven't been involved with computers long enough. That makes sense though as to how 160 MB could be obtained with a single RAM slot.
I'm waiting for the chip, had to order online, will post back results after install. :)
I'm glad to see that you ordered the RAM module. You'll see a big performance improvement with 160 MB instead of 32 MB.
