Zip

I do not have any zipping software.
I'd like to zip a large file, then updload it to someone via email, using what tool WinXP has available. Would it be possible? Can someone shows me how?

Have U tried using the Compressed Folder functionality in XP (Right click > Send To > Compressed (Zipped) Folder).

Or you can try the freeware 7-Zip

You don't want the compressed folder feature, that's something different. Try the program suggested instead. As long as what ever utility you use uses the basic/standard zip compression format XP will be able to unzip it with its built-in capabilities.

For the last year or so, I've been running free UltimateZip.

If you run the free version, it has a static ad splash when it loads (always the same ad.) The ad only shows for a couple of seconds and there is no adware/spyware in UZ. It is very full featured. (Of course, if you would want to, you can pay for UZ and the ad goes away with the entry of the registration code.)

I can highly recommend UZ!

You, guys, recommanded a zip program. I will try the free one first: 7-zip and UZ free version.

ngan, I've got the one falcon2000 suggested and really like it because it also will open .rar files. Which is some of my programs or files I had compressed with when I had winrar, and no longer have.

Might want to have a look at this neat lil' tool if you intend on trying to send large files by email: http://www.gdgsoft.com/gsplit/

Not sure what you mean, doc. I use the Compressed (Zipped) Folder ... via right click > Send To > Compressed (zipped) Folder ... many times and it does compressed files to smaller sizes and I can email them to others and the recipients can open and decompress/extract them just like regular .zip files.

Falcon2000: actually, I followed your instructions, the right click>Send To>Compressed (Zipped} from XP: it does the job well. I am pleased with it.
Now I have so many choices to choose from.
