Windows 95 startup
I have seen this problem occur in all versions of Windows including 98 & ME & am wondering if anyone has a fix for it
On startup, after the clouds where it says Starting Windows 9.x, it displays a bitmap for a few seconds while it continues to load. This appears to be the last wallpaper that was used, not the current one. The system proceeds through enumeration where it shuts off the graphics capability of the video card for a second to enumerate it (where you get the DOS text back briefly). Then it goes to the desktop & everything is fine
This has even happened on my own system before
Any ideas?

Sorry PCSolutions - I just rebooted both my computers a couple of times and I don't see anything that resembles what you describe. If I see anything around I'll be sure to let you know.

I've seen this on my friends Win98 machine, but its never happened on my system running win95b.He was running webshots and active desktop ,I just assumed it was one of these that caused it?
-
I have seen it before on 95a - I tend to agree with wonderinguy, pretty sure it was when active desktop was enabled, it would flash the windows wallpaper and then boot into the active "wallpaper" background.
But I wouldn't have picked you for a Active Desktop user there PC?
Maybe when you enabled it for troubleshooting other's problems? (that's the only time I ever turn it on on my poor guinea pig of a system https://discussions.virtualdr.com/ ).

Really Mo? I prefer dirty looks. https://discussions.virtualdr.com/
Seriously though, are you saying it doesn't do it any more with no wallpaper set in Active or Non-Active desktops but it used to when a wallpaper was set "behind" the active desktop?
-
Maybe the active desktop is it. Good thinking guys. I will look into that. I know of at least 3 people that are currently having this problem
I am using webscenes for wallpaper & like it. It doesnt do it with that but I format about every 6 months. I am currently overdue!
Do you think disabling the active desktop would stop this? I usually do that on mine but I am not sure of the others have it on or not. I turned it on as an experiment.
Edit
Well, this is interesting. I disabled webscenes to get it generic. Then I enabled the active desktop, changed the wallpaper & rebooted. Then I changed the wallpaper again & rebooted.
What I noticed first is that with active desktop enabled it boots considerably slower. Also, it does display the wallpaper briefly (but the current one) then goes to the teal then to the desktop with the current wallpaper.
With active desktop disabled it does not do this. I bet thats it
Thanks all!

Just tried activating the view as web page and rebooting. Yes it did flash of and then back on again. Also took considerably longer to boot on my old 133. Certainly looks like Ative Desktop is the culprit.
