Hi there,
Here's my favorites resources regarding today's Internet Security:
Directory of Internet Security Software
Network Scanner - Freeware
Center for INternet Security
I had Norton Internet Security 2006, running on Windows XP SP2, which worked fine, except it caused my computer to start up very slowly.
I had many installation issues that are well reported in other customers reviews.
I hope this helps.
Cheers,
Samantha

CONSUMERS REPORTS MAGAZINE of Jun13 did a study of A-V programs. The magazine/article may be read online & for FREE @ your local public library.
The top-rated best 3 free A-V programs were;
Avast! Free Anti-Virus was recommended by Consumer Reports Magazine (#1).
Avira Free Anti-Virus was recommended by Consumer Reports Magazine (#2).
AVG AntiVirus Free 2013 was recommended by Consumer Reports Magazine (#3).
All will do their assigned task and are FREE (as in no cost). Enjoy!

BTW, IMO Consumer Reports Magazine ( owned by Consumer Reports Organization, Yonkers, NY) is an INDEPENDENT, UN-BRIBEABLE , AUTHORITATIVE source for many items, not just computers. IF you read about CR's origins & (legal) history you shall learn just how independent & authoritative CR is on items from automobiles through wrinkle creams (no zucchinis tested (yet)). ;)
Enjoy!
Sorry but I don't share your feelings about Consumer Reports being authoritative on all they review. That said, in this case, I have no serious problem with their conclusions about free antivirus programs (although I recently went back to a paid AV after 3 or 4 years of using free ones.)
