Tis statement tells me MAYBE the competition is in serious trouble.
"AMD and IBM today announced that they have developed a new and unique strained silicon transistor technology aimed at improving processor performance and power efficiency. The breakthrough process results in up to a 24 percent transistor speed increase, at the same power levels, compared to similar transistors produced without the technology. "
Though I'm not sure what's so new about strained silicon. That's the problem these days, everything is so hyped up that it's hard to tell whether something really is a genuine innovation, or just a minor tweak to an existing technology :(
I have been an AMD fan just about the whole time I have had a computer. Since I replaced the Cyrix in my first PC--a packard bell piece of junk--with an AMD K6-2, I haven't looked back or ever been disappointed by their product. Let's see, AMD was the first to get a 64 bit chip to market, now this. To anything that could potentially help break the WINTEL stranglehold on the market and get more AMD CPU's in more machines, I say, BRING IT ON!!!!!. Let's see, AMD was the first to get a 64 bit chip to market, now this. Intel is too complacent (and pricey) now that Micro$haft is solidly in their corner. As a result, AMD is slowly eating Intel's lunch-the AMD price/performance ratio can't be beat. AMD will deliver.
Now Lets See, the biggest contenders in the world of processors are INTEL and AMD, now AMD have always been the best (my opion) i would never use an Intel chip in any of my systems, and now they are indevolpment with IBM on a new processor whats intel got, P4?, that was the biggest waste of time yet. And in the world of Graphic Cards Nvidia and Ati are the biggest and in my opion (again) Nvidia Rocks! and scince Nvidia and Sony + Toshiba are indevolpment with a new type of chip also theres not gona be much room for Intel or Ati in the pc market. at best they should join and maby survive a little longer.
