Having recently installed a virus scanner (Panda) I notice that it adds a path command to my autoexec.bat thus:
PATH = %PATH%;c:\notes
set path=c:\pavfn\platinum\;%path%
as you would expect. now at my dos prompt when I type echo %path% I get:
C:\PTW525;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS;C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND;C:\NOTES
No errors during boot up, so wheres my Pavfn gone and where did ptw525 get into the path.

The ptw525 is from a product called Digital Pathworks 32 http://ftp.support.compaq.com/patches/public/windows/pc/v98/pathworks/7.1a/pwp03 71a.CVRLET_TXT
Is this causing problems on your PC or are you just curious to see why the path seems incorrect?
And hey! whatever you do, don't fear the Panda!

I was more curious than concerned. I knew about the pathworks thing. I did do a search in the registry and found nothing on path or ptw525. I then had half a million hits on Microsoft.com and wimped out.
So how does path get created for dos and windows.

The default path for 95 is c:\;C;:\windows;c:\windows\command although that typically is not present in the autoexec.bat and is not necessary
Most software that adds to the path in 95 isnt designed for 95. Ie its made for 3.1. Also, if the software desnt show up in add/remove programs its typically made for 3.1 as well
