virus rules my pc
Hi there, this problem is huge and messy so pls bear with me.
OS: XP SP1
Three weeks ago, while uploading a pic thru msn, I got an infection that effectively created a backdoor for every nasty under the sun. In a matter of hours i was infected with Sasser, Korgo,W32.Spybot and at least five other trojan/hijackers.
My Nortons was working overtime to remove it but it kept regenerating. I downloaded some removal tools which seemed to work but due to extensive file damage (missing files etc) I had to reinstall xp. My system has always had all the critical updates and patches and for security i use nortons and zonealarm.
Now my system is mostly fine but i have noticed that new pics i scan and then go to send are being rejected by hotmail for being infected with a virus. My nortons wont work at all. I have tried to uninstall and reinstall but get an error msg "system administer has put policies in place to prevent this installation".
So i am left with no anti virus protection and no way to scan and clean my puta.
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated:) :)

Sounds like you [or the admin account] have put Restriction Policies in place which prevents certain software installs.

security policies
thanx for the link computer dyslexic, I followed the instructions at the link and according to group policy and local user policy settings i have no software restriction policies on this computer.
I built this computer and apart from my kids am the only one to use it and i am the only user in the administrator group. I did notice however that when I had the sasser infection that the guest user account had been enabled whereas it had not prior to infection and has since been disabled. Its always good to be able to rule things out though so thanx for your post:)
