Log

Is there a way to know "WHAT and WHERE" is installed on the computer when installing new programs? Something like a log. If it even shows the new registry entries that would be more than fantastic.

Hi, I don't think you will get that without a third party prog, I use safe installer as a utility of System Mechanic it shows all new prog installs and the before and after including reg entries. Has saved my butt on a number of occasions. Unfortunately it's not free, there is a trial version, maybe someone knows of a free prog that does this.

You use it to install a program which goes on it's list. It takes a snapshot of your system before install. Then you install the program through it and after the install,it takes another snapshot. When you want to uninstall the program, it removes 'everything' that was installed...

Yes, I use Total Uninstall now and have for quite some time. And yes,you get a window of detected changes with a button to 'expand all' to see exactly what has been added to the registry and where. You also have options to export or print the list.
I do not use it to install major/trusted programs such as Nero,but most small,or not quite 'trusted' programs I want to try out, always get installed using Tun...

I tried Total Uninstall last night. It is kind of a cumbersome process to just install a program, but it does delivered what it promised.

In terms of usage, what do you use it for Ridgerunr? I use this because I need to detect changes in the Registry and want to see if the install program going to tweak any of my other registry.

Well,,my useage at the moment is for Quicktime alternative,Real Media alternative,boilsoft file splitter and several other programs that I may want to be sure 'everything' is gone if I decide to uninstall them. As I said before,if I'm not positive that I'm going to want to keep a program,or don't know enough about it to 'completely' trust it, I use Tun, knowing that an uninstall later will be complete...

I see. So, it is more like a test and trial of a new program.
