Long distance networking
Hi all.
Just a question regarding the length of cable one can run in a Lan home situation. At present have LAN setup and running with Linksys router, ADSL modem, puter#1 p4-1.8 XPPro, puter#2 p4-2.4 W2kPro. I also have at any time, other puters hooked up for repair etc., to the Lan for internet scans etc. I want to move my "office" p4-24 and router etc., approx 75'- away from other puter. I have a single 100' cable I can use to connect to the router. This would run cable form downstars to 3rd level of house. Should I anticipate any problems with loss of speed etc., with this type of setup? I do not wish to go wireless - just need some feedback on this setup.
Thanks in advance,
frums

Should not be a problem. The maximum recommended horizontal length for a Cat 45 cable is 100 metres or 328 ft. Don't think vertical has anything to do with it.

It's actually total cable length which is important -- part is signal loss, part is a reliance on things getting places within a certain time.
100' should be no problem at all.

Thanks guys
Thanks guys for the feedback. Didn't think it would be a problem over that distance, but couldn't remember what I had read before on the limits suggested on cabling runs.
Have a good'un
