Hi there,
I am going to link two laptops to a Netgear modem.
One will use an Ethernet connection, the other a USB.
The USB cable needs to be about 7 meters long. Will this be OK or is there something special I should do?
Thanks in advance,
Rex

The maximum length of a USB cable is 5 metres, if you wan't longer than that then you need to use a hub in the cable, ie have a 5 metre cable to the hub and then a 2 metre cable from it. That's the official word anyway, you might get away with a 7 metre cable, and it won't hurt to try it if you want.
Nick,
That explains why all shops only stock 5m cables.
Apparently, there is a limit to standard parallel cable lengt, but I recently read where a guy had made a 50m printer cable work.
May be the same applies to USB.
I will see.
Many thanks,
Rex
