I have been looking into buying a DVD burner lately..., I am definatly going buy one with Dual layer support..
what is the difference between the DVD+R9 and DVD+R DL,
the 9 in DVD+R9 seems to stand for 9 gig capacity found in Dual Layer media and the DL in DVD+R DL stands for Dual Layer...
I cannot find any place stating anything about the difference between the two.., they seem to be the same thing...

As you suspect, DVD+R9 and DVD+R DL are one in the same. They both refer to double layer dvd+r recording, though the designation DVD+R9 generally is used in regard to the media itself while DVD+R DL is generally used more generically to refer to the process of dual layer writing or to a drive with this capability.
By the way, the capacity with dual layer dvd+r is actually only 8.5gb (or 7.95gb depending on how ya calculate a gb).

hmm..., I wonder.., are these disks going to be playable in all DVD players or what? or at least probably the ones that supported DVD+R in the first place...

The "9" part reflects the type based on a rounding up of the capacity expressed in millions of bytes (approx 8.54, and talking in terms of 1,000,000,000 instead of 1,073,741,824). There are DVD5, DVD9, DVD10, etc formats with comparable meanings.
Compatability of dual layer recorded discs with players is one of the question marks, issues at this point in the evolution of things. There will be compatability issues for sure.
Also, DL discs are pricey, not to mention a bit in short supply. About the cheapest they'll run is $10 US each.
yeah, I know they are pricey at the moment..., i was looking around and the cheapest I could find was $13 each...
I dont plan on using these disks till the price goes down...
I just had a thought though..., are they going to make DVD+RW9, DVD-RAM9, ect. If that is so, I might just wait on buying the burner or just buy one w/o the DL capability...
If you think about it.., a DVD-RAM9 disk would be pretty cool.., you could install a whole OS on that without a problem at all..., even though, I'd think you would put a page file on an actual HDD..
maybe I will wait and see what happends...
