Pci Ata 100
Hi Folks, Gone n Finaly Done it....Took out my dreaded PCI USB2.0 n threw it in the corner...Benchmark for the HD on it was 1 (YES 1)
Not got a clue what was wrong n got fed up of getting frustrated with the long wait of things to Open n Install on it....Any way
This is what i have now done......
Lite-On DVD-Rom 166S is Master on the IDE0 (on its own)
NEC 2500A is Master on the IDE1 (Secondary Master) & the
Lite-On CDR/RW Writer is Slave on IDE1
Not yet Tried em out!!
Maxtor 40Gbt with OS on it C: n E: is Master on the First 80pin cable on PCI ATA100, Maxtor 80Gbt is Slave on same cable...Benchmark=C:39Write n 36read......E:37Write n 31read
D:54write n 16read
Maxtor 120Gbt is set to Master on the Other Ribbon Cable but is showing up as "SLAVE"<<<<Any Ideas as to why its showing as SLAVE...Should it not be MASTER!! or Don't it matter..(to me it does) K: 41write n 47read quite fast really...1.2Ghz Athlon....
Thanks All....Ya doing a Great Job as usual....
It is Working Perfectly, as is the Other Hard Drives

USB 1.0 1.5 Mbps
USB 1.1 12 Mbps
USB 2.0 low speed 1.5 Mbps
USB 2.0 full speed 12 Mbps
USB 2.0 high speed 480 Mbps
Unfortunately the USB 2 moniker has been somewhat convoluted with marketing shenanigans and manufacturers are advised to drop the low/full/high speed notation so that consumers are not confused which means that a potential USB 1 device can be marketed to be USB 2 because of compatibility reasons.

Now the 120GB Maxtor jumper is probably on the Slave setting. You are using the 80 wire ide ribbons?

Hi Train.....Thank you for makeing that a bit more clear for my little Brain...Confuseing is that! but just to give Brain a Shake, is that the same speed or is usb 2 faster!!
It is the correct Wire 80 pin, n conection is on the end..(correct one)..
But what i have noticed is this------After doing checks with progys n looking carefully in the Properties-----The wire I thought was No.1 (like IDE0/IDE1) is actually No.2, so I'm going to change em around n will let u know how it goes...At moment its showeing that my First HD with OS on is Secondary Master rather than Primary!!...Thanks a Lot.....Will let U know if the change over makes a difference........

Hi Train,--Swaped the cables around in the conection on ATA100 n at boot-Up the comp asked to "Insert OS setup disk" so that was wrong even though that conection is the Primary Master...
Anyway, to cut this short, I ended up takeing the HD out n looking at the blanker to set 'slave n master' n found that on the 120Gbt I did not have one on, (that was Auto Slave) n I did not realise that..Could of sworn I had one on there!
Anyway, i put one on, conected them all up n at boot up it still asked me to insert an OS setup disk......So I just Re-swaped the conectors back to what they were, n the Old Comp FIRED-UP...
I then did a Check to see what was Master n Slave------
Well I'm a little surprised, but guess its this way because my main IDE0 is Primary Master...(if I wrong please correct me)
This is what i got on PCI ATA100----Secondary IDE Channel=Master-Maxtor 40Gbt (OS is on this)
Slave-Maxtor 80Gbt (Photos disk from Digi)
Primary IDE Channel=Master-Maxtor 120Gbt (MP3 Albys)
Should that be other way around or is my brain mixed up here!!?
Anyway, it is ALL Working 100% at moment...Thankfully..
Over to U n Thanks for being Helpfull as Allways....Dennis.

What people normally do and what we get to work can sure be different sometimes. :D
Most folks usually boot to the master on IDE one, Me well with my BIOS I am booting the slave on the IDE2 right now. But take good notes. So you can do it again if necessary.
Glad you are up and running. Good going!
