No mouse installed?
Hi all,
My cordless mouse decided to stop working the other day .... so I reinstalled my ps2 mouse and away I went.
BUT only a day later my ps2 mouse stopped working .... the cursor disappeared altogether! then on reboot the system message saying no mouse detected came up.
I have checked the connections, reinstalled the drivers and rebooted several times ..... sometimes it has a mouse and works fine, sometimes it has a mouse for a couple of seconds and sometimes it doesn't detect the mouse at all!
Any ideas?
win98se, pentium III 650, 250mb ram.

Sounds like a dying mouse to me.
If you can borrow another ps2 mouse and see if that works then it pretty much gives you a good answer.

sorry ...... forgot to mention that the problem still occurs with a different mouse .... another ps2 mouse. Still it sees it sometimes and sometimes not.

Try unistalling the programs for your cordless mouse and then boot into Safe Mode.
Be sure to disconnect the device on the PC that is used for the cordless mouse also.
Once there go into Device Manager and delete all entries under the Mouse header and reboot.
Windows should reinstall the proper drivers for your ps/2 mouse.
Perhaps a pin may be bent in the connector?
Try wiggling the connector (at the pc) slightly while it is running and see if it has any effect.
PS: Maybe the batteries on your cordless went bad.

Thanks for the reply Buffalo.
I tried all those things (and yes the batteries are dead in the cordless)..... but unfortunately I managed to kill the puter altogether since then :(
When I get the other problems fixed I will start back into the mouse problem again.
Thanks for your time :)
