deus- ex

i have the game deus-ex and whenever i start it it tells me i need "pixel shader 1.1" or higher i have a geforce 4 mx 440 128 MB video card installed riht now.... is this "pixelshader" a part of videocards of is is some software... if it is a part of the video card... is there any way i can emulate it on the pc so i can play this game???
