Fri nd April Thread - About you thread.

Greetings VDr members. I posted this thread lto learn more about those who post here, as the most effective way for people who post here to learn about other members, and possibly share some knowledge of what each of us does when not posting here :

Tell us about yourself ...

Where are you based ? What family do you have ? What do you do for a living ? Why did you get into computing ? How do you view current developments in the world ? What if anything would you do differently with your life - if you had your time again ? What interests do you pursue when not here ? What other net sites do you have tucked away in your 'favorites' ?

I have met some of the nicest, most helpful, considerate people that its ever been my privilege (and I mean that) to know, that I could ever wish to know on sites such as this.

With the above in mind, I would like to add by way of comment - thanks to the people who make this site what it is now. I won't mention any particular names as I don't want to miss anyone out. Though if you post here day in / day out trying to help people ... my thanks go to you. It really is a most pronounced contrast with 'real' life where it seems most people regard you as an obstacle to get around, rather than a fellow human being in difficulty.

I would also add in conclusion that (as a UK poster), having seen recent OT Threads, that we here have posted more than a few. Therefore if the Mods / Admin take a look here and think that this oversteps the mark - you can delete this thread and give someone else a chance.

I was just trying to encourage people who joined Virtual DR To post if they had not done so.

But having read TJollys requests to YOU as to what you were talking about in the last OT Thread I can see its a wasted effort.

Perhaps we should do away with the OT thread after all. As so many of us predicted, it's becoming a weekly flamefest - I really hoped I was going to be proved wrong. After all VDr is better than any other forum, and I hoped it wouldn't happen here. And to think that people wanted an OT Forum :eek:

And I've just woken up the missus because i was bashing the keys so hard :D

Youve been here long enough to know that members can and often will get the wrong idea and a whole can of worms will open.

Sometimes they find it personal when that is not the intention, which is why we are thankful for smilies:)

I know you an active member over at TSG but you have also contributed a lot over here, so i think it would be a shame to let something like this make you leave.

Well,

Vdr is a discussion board about PC's, but you are always going to have personalities clashing, friendships made etc. whether OT or xp, hardware, software etc...

Dont wanna contradict you Super.... but I dont see this as a flamefest... just a misunderstanding.... I for one hope we can all learn from this... I wouldn't want to see OT stopped.... it generally provides a good relief to the stresses and strains of the IT world....

Yes you will see some get out of hand.... but most don't... and when they do... well let the mods do their thing..

Just my opinion.

That was a misundersanding between me and Calpitor and it was quite rightly pointed out by Ringosaturn. I apologised to Calpitor and I believe he has done so in return.

My apologies to you if I have upset you over Vdr time, it was just how I felt at the time.

Now let's all stick with what Richard has asked.

I'm married, 3 grown up sons who are in business together doing very well thank you and have own homes. I'm a retired Police detective having spent 31yrs in the Police., my wife is still serving as a senior Police Officer.

We live in the 'Heart of Cheshire' in the district of Vale Royal. I have a nice home set in an acre of land with an adjacent field of 5 acres. I have built stables and own horses some of who have been rescued, main horse is in competition. I also have three dogs and two cats.

Presently I really don't do much at all other than to 'potter around' doing what I want to do, suppose I'm a house husband, gofer and carer.

As far as computing is concerned, just got interested in using one.

World events - well let's not open a can of worms.

Weather here has been lovely today. Harrowed the field last Tuesday and rolled it today, you could now play a nice bit of golfing practice on it.

This afternoon watched the Grand National meeting on TV. Bet on 6 horses in 6 races and won on 3, nice little profit to roll over for the big day tomorrow, no doubt I'll lose the lot but, never mind it's only once a year.

I believe that the OT thread is important to Vdr and should not be dispanded.
