Msconfig
I have a question on the MSCONFIG items. I was in there checking the start up menu to be sure of what is checked an I clicked on some of the other tabs to see what they were. The oen I have a question about is the tab that said Autoexec.bat. Now in that window are three items and each have a check mark
1. Program AVG....I know this is my AV
2. Set Blaster.
3. Eyllu..YlY ? . OEAAll.
Can someone tell me what items 2 & 3 are and are they supposed to be checked? I think the last time I checked this tab, only the AV was in there and I am curious as to what the others may be. I searched around and could not find them. Thanks for the help.

Also, I notice on boot up that i get a line just before windows comes up that says "Bad command" and it looks like all thios symbols in my above post, but it goes by so fast I cannot really tell.

Blaster is probably your sound card.
now the 3rd, I googled and did not find anything. Check that spelling please.

See if what you're looking for is listed Here (#2 anyway):

That is the correct symbols that is listed in item 3, exept the A has the 2 dots above it. I tried to copy it over here, but would not
copy. I was reading on some other threads here and figured out the set blaster had to do with the sound card or so I thought. Thanks for the help and I will search for the symbols further. I was scared to uncheck it just in case.

what you can try to do is search your computer for the third one and see if anything comes up. And you can ucheck it from start up reboot.....then see if there is any problems with any programs. You can always go back into msconfig and re-enable it. I also searched for the third one with no results.

My bet is that the line #3 in your first post is the same line that is causing the error that you see during booting. It is probably in either your CONFIG.SYS or AUTOEXEC.BAT files. Unchecking it should correct the problem. You could post the contents of both of those files here for a more detailed analysis. It sounds like at least one has been corrupted.

Yes, it is clearly the autoexec.bat which is corrupted.
#2 is meant to set some environmental variables for your sound card, but is missing parameters. It's not doing anything this way, nothing to be worried about but it might be annoying when you want sound in a DOS program.
#3 makes no sense and looks messed up. It causes the "bad command" message, which simply means your computer ignores it because it makes no sense to it either. You could run scandisk and see if there are any errors on your disk. #3 might be the missing set blaster parameters "gone bad".
Furthermore, you can search for autoexec.bak or autoexec.*
Often programs backup the autoexec.bat before modifying it. Maybe one of them can show you what used to be there.

Thanks guys. I will uncheck #3 and see what happens. I only see the error message "bad command" just a split second during boot up before the win98 screen comes up and it looks like a bunch of symbols. I have just never noticed these in the autoexe.bat before. I always thought it s empty. I have searched for these symbols everywhere and cannot find them. I had a lot of error messages when I installed norton utiltities, so I have completely uninstalled the program and so far no run time errors and stuff. Will post back if I when I find out something about #3.
