Win98FE -> 98SE
I have an old computer running 98FE and want to update the system to 98SE without formatting and starting again (it runs sweet as it is, but some programs, Acrobat6, Dreamweaver MX2004 require 98SE+)
I have a full copy of 98SE , not an upgrade and not the update ..
Can I update to 98SE with this disk ?
Would I need to uninstall anything first ? Such as any available MS patches etc ?

General Winters, not an upgrade and not the update?
From what I understand you would need the upgrade to do it? but in your case I would f-disk, that should do the trick. There is an issue with IE that causes the problem with an update.
I hope this may help?
Take Care:)

"want to update the system to 98SE without formatting and starting again " f-disk????WHY repartition....
Anyways,
You currently have FE on the computer and only have a Legal "Full Install" of 98SE CD.
Do this.
1. Restart in MS-DOS
Type the following hitting the (<enter>) key after each line.
C:\CD Windows
C:\windows>delete win.com
CD
Now go to your cdrom drive with the 98SE in it and type
Setup
Let it replace any files. remember to ensure the new version is installed to C:\Windows; Let Windows 'replace' the current operating system - it will then install new files and update older ones. It won't remove documents, settings etc, but it's best to back up everything in case of a power failure or whatever.

not an upgrade and not the update ..
Then it is a full install and until you fromat the drive, it probably will not install. I always used the upgrade for this. But do have the full install if I need it also.

Ok, will try deleting win.com and see if the full install works .
I have the full cds for 98fe, se and an upgrade disk for ME , but there is no way i would let ME near my computer .. :D
