Show Desktop removed from quick launch

My "Show Desktop" icon was accidently dragged onto my desktop. Now that I drag it back, it only makes shortcuts onto my quick launch bar. If I delete the icon off my desktop, the shortcut no longer works. I never had the icon on my desktop before. Please help!
