dll nightmare!
A friend of mine has a PIII 750mhz
128mb PC100, 15.3gbWD hard drive, Creative SoundBlaster AWE64, 56x CD, TDK CD-RW, I'm not sure abt the Video Card with WinME.
He has been having lots of trouble with dll errors . I went over to look at it for him, as he couldn't tell me what it was doing. In the 2 hrs. I was over at his house, I recieved 26 dll error messages, all different! To name a few, Yahoo Player, Lexmark scanner & printer, TDK burner (Nero) etc... These were a few of the devices being used when the error message popped up. I have used ME at work and home before and have never seen this many problems with it before. He does have all of the updates and patches for ME loaded. Any help would be appreciated. TIA!!!!!

Here is where troubleshooting becomes detective work. Try a clean boot i.e. open the System Configuration Utility and disable the startup group, autoexec.bat and config.sys and reboot. If no errors go back to the System Configuration Utility open the startup page and enable one item at a time and reboot see when the dll errors creep back up. At the moment it would be impossible to tell if this a problem with the Operating System or a program running in the background.
An on-line virus scan may also be a good idea.
Also when did this start? What has been added or removed recently? What are the errors that come up? There must be a common thread among them all even if you don't see it.

Use System Restore to roll your computer back to a date to before when your computer worked right. Before the error(s) started occurring.
To start System Restore, click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. Or, in the Help and Support main screen, click Use System Restore under Fix a problem.

Not me having the trouble, its a friend. Although it was one of my old computers\with a clean install of ME about 6 months ago.
I'm not sure when his problem started. I went over to his house to fix a problem with the CD rom, the CD rom wouldn't play music CD's. It was a dll problem with the CD rom. Already tried System Restore, Ran 2 virus scans, Ran trojan scans, both virus and trojan negative. Everything ran fine before i gave the computer to him. Tried to talk him into buying winXP but he said no. Going to try a System Repair with ME next, but I'm having Cervical Disk surgery tomorrow so I don't know when I'll be able to return to his house.
