Just thought the article linked below might be of interest to you guys/gals. The page I link gives the summary, but ya have to weed through the article to see where/why they come up with their statements.
With today's systems and OSes like XP the common battlecry has become "the more memory the better". The article takes issue with some aspects of that. Have a look, see what ya think and if ya agree or not with what's said.
The more the better?
A very interesting read Doc. A lot of it is way above my head,because i'm really not interested with what's going on with the latest n' greatest at this time. But some very interesting(to me) points were brought up concerning future builds and where the CPU racetrack may be headed.
I've always been conservative money wise with PC's. I don't have it to 'throw around',which is one reason why i chose AMD for my first build. This may seem kind'a 'out there', but i live 40 miles from the main Intel 'Castle' here in Oregon. They've played king-of-the-hill with our politicians regarding paying(or not:mad: )of taxes. This also was a reason i went with the 'underdog'.
When i see what AMD's engineers have been able to do with a tiny lil' budget(compared to Intel's), it's just another incentive to stick with them as far as i'm concerned.
I'll stick with my Athlon T-Bred 1.47@1702Mhz and my 512MB's of Crucial DDR2700 for quite some time. No gamer here,but do a lot of work with audio and more recently video capture/editing. This lil' critter hums along just fine carrying XP-home on it's back. Even with 'my' pokin' and proddin' it hasn't missed a' lick...:cool:

Now that is a nice find. But that factor [slow down] has always been there one way or the other. Just finding it could be a big surprise for folks. Thanks.
It won't slow you down if you actually use it. Some people have a habit of just loading up as much as possible, but I always tell them to just see how much they use, and get about the same amount. I put 1GB in mine, but I use about 700-800MB of it at times, so I needed that much. Only having 512MB was slowing me down too much. Anything's faster than a hard drive :)
