Device not present

Helping a friend with VGA problem on an old 200Mhz Puter with W95 OS

In device mgr, found the dreaded yellow exclaimation mark on the "Standard PCI Graphics Adapter" icon with tha message:" Device not present,not working, or doesn't have alldrivers installed. Code 10"

I tried updating drivers, even put W95 disk in and found no new drivers. Any ideas where to go from there??? Thanks.....Hoppy2k

any specifics on the card itself brand, model etc?

if the card is working I wouldnt suspect that it has gona bad. maybe the wrong drivers were installed.

Yeah, try to find out as much about the brand of the device and company as you can. Then use say, the computer you are posting on this forum with to download drivers for it.

You also might try removing it from the hardware profile and restarting the computer and see if that helps the problem.

Performing a search at the Microsoft Knowledge Base on Code 10 (microsoft.com...advanced search) produces many helpful articles on this problem.

Be sure any related BIOS/CMOS settings for the PCI Slot or related functions are not disabled.

If you have a motherboard with a built-in graphics adapter and are trying to install a graphics card in an expansion slot, the onboard motherboard graphics adapter may need to be disabled. Sometimes a motherboard jumper is used for this.

Before working inside the computer, be sure you don't void any existing warranty, and remember to take anti-static precautions.
