deleting/removing files from Temp

I run W2kPro sp4 desktop using Mozilla, Norton Suite, SpySweeper and AdAware -all up to date . I was checking email from one of my subscribed joke lists the other day, and clicked on a link for an .swf file type cartoon. I was immediately innundated with multiple windows opening - totally out of control. Ended up closing the browser. and then restarting it. Everything still works fine, but in Boot drive C, under Docs/Settings, Administrator, Local Settings, Temp, I found many copies of this swf file. I could select and delete most of them, but still have 13 instances of name.1.1.1.1......swf file that I cannot remove or delete. I have tried selecting and deleting; right click / delete but to no avail. I have run Spy / AdAware and done virus checks but nothing shows up. As this Temp folder is a system folder, is there a way to delete it completely and let w2k add it again on reboot? HOw do I get rid of these examples of the .swf file? Somewhere in the registry is a key or whatever that should allow me to remove these files, but I do not know exactly where it is, or which one it is exactly. I normally don't run as Admin, but use my user acct., just in a hurry this time and messed up. Any help with a solution would be gratefully and greatly appreciated. I normally run with Java off and Javascript enabled, but was wondering if I really even need the Jscript enabled for most things.

frums--Restart in Safe Mode and try deleting the files (not the folder) from there.

Thanks WelshJim for the reply. I did try booting in Safe Mode, but still couldn't remove the files. I tried both from the menu bar and also right click / delete. There seems to be no response at all to these actions. The files are 1.06 meg each so would like to get rid of them. I also booting to C:> and going in that way, but then couldn't find the Temp folder listed in a dir search .
Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Hello to all. I have once again tried going to Safe Mode on bootup, and deleting these files. I can delete other temp files that are in the Temp folder with no problems using the Delete X on the menu bar or by right clicking and selecting delete from the drop down menu. When I try to do the same with these .swf files, nothing happens at all - not even any hard drive activity. I have even tried to drag and drop to the recycle bin, but with the same results. I have redone all virus scans - both locally and online, as well as trojan/spyware/adware scans, and all came up negative. Anyone have any more ideas on how to remove these files?
They don't seem to be doing anything on the puter but sitting there. Firewall does not detect any activity either - out of normal.

Just a note to say that I have finally solved the problem of the undeleteable files. What had been suggested did not work at all. Did however find a solution and now running better than ever. To all who read the post, thanks for taking the time, and thanks for the suggestions.

This is a good site that has been very helpful to a lot of people - one can learn lots from the various problems and solutions submitted.

Hi WelshJim, and yes, you are correct - one does learn from others mistakes and knowledge. I apologize, to both yourself, and others on the board, for not sharing in the last post, but was called away to work and just returned after over 9k kilometers of driving in last couple of days, so didn't finish all I would have liked to add.

As I stated in my original post, these files came from a reputable joke site I have sub'd to for years - and still do. The following is what I did:

I prep'd new HD and installed with new complete install of w2kpro, then copied all my important files over to new drive - old being slave. Once everything was setup and running on new HD, reversed drives and used old as master and began to play with the files. Tried everything suggested again to make sure that I had not messed up the instructions or whatever. No luck. Since it didn't matter if I messed up anything on the old drive now - I clicked on one of the ***.11111......swf files and it executed. It opened my browser - Mozilla, and took me to my home page. Tried each of the 13 files - all with different amount of 111's in them, and they all did the same thing. I will probably now just format, fdisk etc., the old drive and start anew using it as a spare drive. Because of the new installation of the w2kpro on new drive, these files are not in the Temp folder. However, as a matter of knowledge, I would still like to know of any possible way to remove these files completely from the Temp folder, and also if anyone knows of how to stop these from being installed / saved in the first place. They were links on a website that should have just executed / opened / played. Generally try to solve my own problems - because I usually create them - like to experiment lots, and learn- but not knowledgeable like many on this great site.

Just as a followup to my last post......Can anyone tell me where in the registry I can find the Admin...../Temp listed in my first post? I am fairly comfortable with the reg, and would like to be able to edit these files / delete them in the reg if possible. As I said, will probalby format this drive later, but for now can use it as a learning tool to increase my knowledge of w2k , the Registry etc.

Any, and all suggestions, will be gratefully appreciated.
