NT 4.0 keeps restarting
hello ,
our NT 4.0 server keeps restarting before fully booting up, we have been having security problems , had outpost pro firewall installed on server but kept getting bugs then the firewall shut its self down, so we tried uninstalling, and during the restart to complete uninstall the problem started.
the computer seems to be starting as usual until just prior to "logon" screen appears...at which point it just resets.
And then continues in this cycle or "trying to" restart
Recently our anti virus software identified "irc.family.gen", and "W32.femot.worm" , but the antivirus software (norton antivirus) indicates they were quarentined, and a virus scan was conducted and showed no trace of virus.
Is there any way to get over this problem, or just to retrieve data.
thanks

Flakyness can be a number of problems. Based on what you have said, I am suspecting a bad memory module.
Is the server a domain controller?
There is a part in the boot process where you are briefly presented the option of loading the last known good configuration by hitting the space bar. You then hit ''L" and ENTER to try loading a previous known good configuration. This will work if the crash is happening before the login is done (at which time the last known good is overwritten).
Try that first.
If you can get in, rerun the latest service pack (6a I think is still the latest).
If you can't, try booting to VGA mode.
Good luck, Pat
