Wrong Bios Flashed on hp 8485Z pavilion

ok , I have learned my lesson on downloading a bios update from anyplace but the manufacturer.

I flashed my bios on my ASUS p2b-VE (a board made especially for hp) and now my bios is corrupted. I recieve a long beep followed by 2 short beeps and no display. about 20 seconds later The computer seems to access the floppy for a second and then two short beeps and stops. If I press f2 it again seems to be accessing the floppy again. I've tried to create bootable disks with the flash utility and proper bios.rom file called from within the autoexec.bat but it doesn't seem to be working. at the moment I do not have an old isa card, to get the display working nor do I have another bios chip or computer with the same hardware. the bios is a pheonix bios ver 1.09 and is available from hp's site.

My question is: does anyone know how i can get the floppy to run the phlash.exe file. Am i right in assuming that the computer seems to read from the disk? does anyone know why f2 seems to have the computer reaccess the floppy. is there anything else i can do?

Assuming that when you flashed the BIOS you chose not to backup the current image of the BIOS when you flashed it you can try downloading the correct BIOS flash from HP and unzipping it to a floppy then try booting off of it to reimage the BIOS again. Quite likely you will be working in the dark here with the exception of the tower's LEDs. IF the system appears to be reading the floppy during boot press enter when the LED goes out and wait 10 seconds and then press enter again. Wait for the LED to out again and press enter. Wait for the LED to go out again press enter and wait five minutes (probably twice as much time that should be required but better safe than sorry) then turn the system completely off and then reboot with no floppy. If you are still stuck try rebooting off the floppy again but holding the left hand CTRL Key while booting and repeating the above steps. This will work on many HP products but unfortunately not all.

I was able to recover. Calpitor I believe that your solution <enter wait... enter wait....> would have worked. Here is what I found out.

I got my hands on an old cirrus logic ISA video card from work this morning. I disconnected all devices and peripheral's except for the keyboard and floppy. I inserted the ISA card. Information that i obtained from multiple bios sites through google said that it is possible that the bootlock section of the bios would be able to power up the ISA card, but not a PCI or AGP (including built int) cards.

I then powered on the system. The ISA video card seemed to resolve the initial beep followed by 2-short beeps. Now with a working display I was able to see what was going on. On post two errors were reported one being the time clock and the other Cmos checksum. At this point the computer prompted for f1 to enter setup and f2 to resume. upon resume the computer would access the floppy, from this point I would have to respond by pressing the enter key 2 to 3 times to confirm writing over the old phoenix bios. and then took about a minute to completely overwrite the bios.
