Now what is this?

I re-installed Windows Media Player 7.1 several days ago even tho I prefer the 6.4 version. I did this to perform some tasks.
I just ran Spybot and this turned up, I removed it but is this the result of installing WMP version 7.1? If it is the the 7.1 version, it is history unless this is the result of using any version of WMP. I never ever saw this before when running Spybot. Here is what is said about the tracking cookie varmint:

Another question---is this possibly connected to or has something to do with the language dealing with licensing, or whatever, when MS thinks that copying of a commercial CD has taken place. I do not recall those exact words nor why I ever saw them on my machine some time ago. Sorry if I am only confusing this issue more by injecting this into my post.

Regarding the other thread where i mentioned going into 'tools'>'options' and disabling all the "call home" junk. Does yours look like the following?

And do you have it set in your firewall(if you have one,that is)to access the net, but not act as a server?

Son-of-a-gun, now I'll never know because I was so "upsot" that I have already removed 7.1 so I can't know that I had it set up as your links has it. I do not recall having "enable codecs checked and I am now sure of the other one. I really thought I had all configurations done according to your posts in Multimedia forum.
I have the firewall that is provided in Nortons Internet Security 2002 and I think(thought) I had disabled any attempt by 7.1 to go to the web in the firewall.
Guess I'll now re-consider re-installing it tomorrow and compare your two shots to the setup if I do.

Bit of a' minomer there. I use Zone Alarm 2.6ver. and i do let WMP access the internet. Otherwise it would not play streaming media or such on IE. But, i have ZA set to not let it act as a server. In other words, it doesn't let WMP send anything to the internet. ;)

Should mention,i use eTrust for my AV program. And because of past 'negative' experiences with Nortons programs, i will not let anything made by them on my PC...:rolleyes:

The only setting you have to uncheck is the one that says "allow Internet sites to uniquely identitfy your Player"

Just uncheck that box...that's all Spybot is talking about. It's not a big deal because its function is similar to that of a cookie.

If you don't want it to do that....then just turn it off.
