Well it's time to get a DVD burner for my PC but I am not sure what to look out for! I have heard and read something about dual format and I am not sure what are the current speeds and what is just too slow? Any advise?

start by reading these
speeds anywhere from 1x-4x
what are you willing to spend and what are you going to be doing w/ your dvd burner
Thanks for the reply, i picked up a 4X TDK that does both + and - for a great price of $199 and a $50 mail in rebate. I do have a problem though, after I burn a DVD it won't play on my home DVD player but it plays fine on the computer. Any idea's?
Try burning using the other format, there's a good chance that your home player will work with one or the other. Moist new ones are OK at reading both formats now, but some older ones are quite fussy.
u prolly burned +r
for home dvd players it is generally recommended to burn at -r
It depends on what compatability is built into your DVD player have a look here to see if its listed and what type it supports.DVD-R is probably the best bet though.
