IE 5.0 and Windows 3.1
I recently installed the 16-bit version of IE 5.0 under Windows 3.1 and after a long fight most of my browser problems are gone.
But a couple of minor problems remain with the browser.
When visiting the Microsoft website http://www.micrsosoft.com, and performing an advanced search, there are options to search more than one section. Below that there are two buttons: "select all" and "clear all" They are not working as they should. Clicking "Clear all" does not remove checks from the boxes and clicking "select all" does not add the checks.
There is also another problem:
After performing a search with the "submit query" button, I cannot reach more results with the "2" "3" or "Next five results" link at the bottom of the first results page. Anyone know what causes these problems? When hovering over them the pointed finger is displayed. After clicking on them, the mouse pointer is displayed and nothing happens.

I'd almost be willing to bet it's simply because Microsoft's site was not designed to support such an old browser.

Thanks Vernon,
The "select all" and "clear all" buttons worked last week, but not since then. I think this is the latest browser available for Windows 3.1, these functions should work fine. I think the problems are related to the IE options, but not sure which ones.
Any ideas?

Just did a quick glance at the source code for that page and it looks like it's using Javascript. It doesn't indicate what version of Javascript the code needs to run but, unless you have Javascript disabled, my guess would be that what it's trying to do only works with a later version of Javascript than what is embedded in your browser.

Thanks Vern, sorry i haven't let you know on this.....
I may have had IE Javascript options set to disable.
Another Problem:
When looking into this and script errors etc I was experiencing with IE 5, found advice at Microsoft to download latest scripting engine(JAVA / VBASIC). When going to the site to do this, I found that the requirements were at least Windows 95. I have Windows 3.1. Can you advise?
I have since removed the IE 5 browser due to this and other problems and I'm using the MOSAIC browser.

Javascript and Java are two different animals. More info here:

As far as Windows 3.1, afraid I have bad news. Since it was released 14 years ago now, (March 1, 1992), I doubt anyone is still developing or attempting to repair anything related to it. (No money in it).
Time to upgrade. :)
