cmmgr32.exe missing
Greetings!
Windows XP Professional. Norton Utilities shows that I have an error:
The key, "SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\cmmgr32.exe," refers to an invalid application path, "C:\WINDOWS\System32\cmmgr32.exe."
Amazingly, I do not have cmmgr32.exe on my system! I don't even know IF it was orginally installed. All I know is that it is MS Connection Manager (whatever that is).
I have cmmgr32.hlp file but no cmmgr32.exe!!
What is this? Any known reason why I do not have it (I've no reason to delete)? What does it do?
Where can I get a replacement copy?
Janusz

you might try this, start>run>type in sfc /scannow make sure there is a space between the c and the / this will scan all native files in xp, if any are missing or corrupt, it will ask you for your xp disk and fix/replace them.
ps, my personal opinion of nortons is... remove it and place the install cd in a strong round container that gets emptied every week:D

Did the file protection verification . . . nada.
What bothers me is that there is a registry entry that doesn't match a file. Something is amiss.
Do you have cmmgr32.exe?? Some just have the help file.
Norton? Which Norton product? System Check? Antivirus? I have used Norton Utilities for years beginning with DOS then Win 3.1, 95, 98SE, and now XP. Some components I do not particularly care for or even use but System Check is outstanding and the Norton defrag is also great.
Norton Anti-virus? I wouldn't use it if it were free. Norton now has CleanSweep - I've used it since QuarterDeck had it.
In this case, there is a registry entry that doesn't match a file that is missing . . . Norton System Check DID find it. Easy to verify. Seems to me it did its job. I certainly have no complaints because it was found!
Have you ever used System Check? It's safe and reliable - foolproof . . . well, almost, because there are some out there. :-)

i did not have that file, however, im running xp home. have you tried just deleting the reg entry? (back it up first) if it is something that windows needs, it will usually regenerate it itself. sometimes there are bogus registry entries (at least thats what programs like regscrubxp and probably nortons qualifies them as) but something acutally needs them to run. i run regscrubxp and have found many reg entries that are null or have some other "problem" some i have deleted and had no repercussions, others i have had to reinstall the program(s) because i didnt back it up. others i deleted, windows entries, that were needed just got regenerated by windows. i then moved them to a protedted area so they would not show as a problem. as far as nortons stuff goes, im sure it has its good points. myself, i find their software quite intrusive to a system and very propriatory. from system works to antivirus.
