It is my understanding that Roxio is the built in program for controlling CD Rom functions. Lately I have been having problems with the basic version 5 so I updated to the Platinum version 5. I have found that Roxio is not that adaptable to Win XP. I had to install an update to make Platinum Version 5 work with XP. I also found that there were several functions that were not supported. Is it possible to replace the program completely or am I overreacting:confused:
no you're not! Did you try doing a reinstall of ECDC but applying the patch after install?? Roxio's method suggests applying the patch before rebooting. If this doesn't help, other people will suggest you use Nero. You can download the demo here.
I've never tried the photo album option, but a friend of mine tried it and said that there was no way he could see to change the length of time that the slide show remains on each photo.
You didn't upgrade far enough. Microsoft says you're going to have trouble between XP and any versiion of Roxio Easy CD creator earlier than 5.1.

Actually, the problem is that 5.1 had all kinds of problems with XP, and those computers on which it worked with XP were the exception rather than the rule, no matter how you tried to apply the patches. It was a major black eye for Roxio.
The new version - 6.0 - works well with it, however.
I don't exactly understand. I went to the Roxio site and downloaded the recommended upgrade. I just find in strange that some of the better features won't work. If I completely remove Roxio from my system will there be any features left behind that would interfere with a different program:confused:
The point is that, after a year and a half, Roxio still hasn't figured out how to make it's CD Creator compatible with XP. Every time they tweak it so that it will work on more computers, a flood of new issues arises.
I'm currently not having any issues with ECDC on XP, and there is a problem that "some" may have with Nero, if one had ECDC installed. Not saying you will, but if you decide to use Nero instead, you may want to look it up on Nero's web site for the fix.
I was going to open a new thread as I have NO problems with CD Creator Platinum on my XP.

The problem I am having is there are two features that won't work with XP and they are both features that I want to be able to use. Formatting a CD and backing up programs on CD.
If by "backing up programs" you mean "Take Two" then you're out of lucks. My understanding is that Take Two is the source of most of the problems and that's why the Roxio takes it out.Quote:

Take Two®* was developed when the Window 95 operating system and smaller hard drives were the rule. As hard disk drives grew in size it became evident that Take Two was not the best backup solution. If by "Formating a CD" you mean "DirectCD" you may have to install it after the update. I am not sure but I think the update will first uninstall DirectCD then ask you rather you want to install it near the end pf the update process. I don't use DirectCD so I not too sure about that. Try installing it from the CD and see.Yes, you don't have to use EZCD. There are many other programmes you can use. Around here, this forum, Nero is the most recommended. Before switching to another programme though, it may be best for you to try getting DirectCD to work first. After all it is a programme that you know and are familiar with.
Besides, switching to another programme doesn't necessary mean you'll be home free. Some users have problems using the highly recommended Nero also. On the other hand, I have had no problems using EZCD Creator (various versions) with a few different boxes of XP Pro, one box of WinME and 3 boxes of Win2K Pro (all with very different hard/softwares; some were home built; some were custom built; others are off-the-shelf.) Searching this forum you will see some users utter blanket statements such as "EZCD Creator simply will not work with XP ... you'll have absolutely no problem with Nero ...etc, etc." I find that very counter-productive ... some users say the same thing with WinME ... and Mac ... but these are separate topics altogether ....

Take Two was removed from ECDC because of incompatibility with XP, however Direct CD is included under the "make a data CD" button and works well here. All I did was install ECDC 5.1 using the custom install and left out Take Two, then installed the XP update and have had no problems with it.
