It's a good one.
But look for the P4 2.4B which can run on a 533MHz FSB, instead of the 2.4A which runs only on a 400MHz FSB.
Here is what it is:

What is the diff between this processor and the regular P4 2.4?
Bus speed you want the 533mhz bus not the 400mhz version .Quote:

Ok, I ordered one yesterday along with a new Asus mainboard. It should be quite a jump from the P2 400 system I am running now!
Once I get the new stuff will i have to reformat my Windows drive since the board will be different?
It is always best to do a clean install....unless you are using very very similar boards....and I can tell you jumping from a 400mhz to a 2.4ghz...there is not going to be anything similar on that board...so yes do a format and clean install......and get ready to zoom...that thing will fly compared to the old 400
Make sure your new mobo supports the 533 FSB if you're getting the 2.4b. Most do these days, but it would be a bummer to find out it doesn't!
I got the ASUS P4PE/L for mine. Works well, just having difficulty find PCI drivers (or whatever they are called for the mobo) that works with W98. But WinXP loaded very well. (I'm trying to run a dual boot).
Good luck!
P4 Northwood IS a regular P4. But it comes in versions...400 MHz FSB and 533 MHz FSB.Quote:

Thanks I actually meant to ask the diff between the 2.4 and the 2.4B but I have found out that the B is the new 533 FSB.
I recently got the P4-2.4b and if you're planning on using the same case get some fans. It runs hot.
I don't think i will have a problem in the heat area. I currently have 7 fans in my case because my 400 ran hot too. I do think i may need to upgrade my power supply though. I am using a 300watt so I may upgrade to a 400 watt. I do have a brand new case too but it is a little large for my computer desk so I am going to stick with my original case.
WOW, its all in and it flies!
