Opera 7.01
This is a big improvement over the 7 beta's. As fast as any of the other versions and they give you 14 days before the ads start in the free version. Extremely fast and stable. (so far)
Edit: Remembers passwords and handles java apps very well. (2 weaknesses of the earlier versions.)
-
I also think it is just the best browser ...
-
Just discovered a nice feature of this browser. You can highlite any text, right click and get a "search with" option in the menu. Meaning you can go directly to a google search without a copy and paste.
-
The new Opera also has a plug-in bookmark manager called "Jetlinks" that can merge the bookmarks from your other browsers. Currently, you can merge bookmarks from Opera, IE and Netscape, and they say that the list is growing.

just d\l opera and am play with it. pretty impressive..both opera and mozilla are nicer than IE6......need to try it out for a couple of weeks......whats with the ads after 14 days
-
They charge $39 US to make a banner ad go away and to help support the effort. You don't need to pay to use the browser.
About a year ago, with an earlier version of Opera, I paid the $39. Somewhere in the process of repeated upgrades, Opera stopped showing me as a registered user, but I still don't see any ads in the browser.
I'm not aware of any other benefits that come with paying.

With mouse gestures and F4 to get at your faves, you can run full time full screen with no ads.
-
what do you mean "With mouse gestures and F4"
-
F4 expands your window. Opera virtually invented mouse jestures although others are now using them (I also use Avant which has mouse jestures). Find instructions for using mouse jestures under "Help".
-
brindle26, with mouse gestures you can back up, close a page, scroll thru open windows, reload a window, and F4 drops down the hotlist which is your favorites. F11 toggles between full screen and regular screen.
-
Sorry, DVOM is correct. I got my buttons mixed up. A mouse feature that I use alot is "depress right button, click left" will move back a page; "depress left button, click right" will move forward a page.

The one thing I didn't like about 7 is the look of the toolbar, but you can download new skins that really make it look nice:

It is nice that Opera has a real full screen mode rather than the partial one in Internet Explorer.

-
F11 in IE still leaves a thin toolbar at the top. Opera is completely full screen.
-
Gerdog, in IE you can right click that tool bar and do "auto hide" to get rid of it.
