Right Click Options
How can I change the list of activities available when I "right click" the mouse? I have just loaded some translation software but when I "right click" I not only get an option to ttranslate but also to "register", "clear memory cache" , "check for updates" etc which maks the list of right click options rather long (not quite 2 pages yet!). Help, as ever, much appreciated. Thanks

Hi i haven't explored this myself however you should not have too much trouble back up registry first .This from kelly's XP
Right Click Context Menus - Deleting entries
Click Start, Run and enter REGEDIT Go to:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\OpenWithList
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\*\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shell
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers
You can also go to a specific File extension (example: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.txt\ShellNew) and right click on the ShellNew key and select Delete, if the item shows up in the New context menu.
Expand the above branch and look through the sub-keys. Locate the one that corresponds to the entry you wish to remove and right click that sub-key and select Edit.
You may wish to right click the desired sub-key and select Export. This will create a REG file that you can double click to re-import the information, if you find out you deleted the wrong one, or want it back.

Thanks! Is there a simpler way? I note I have the same "menu" options in the tools menu of internet explorer.....

Try this.

On second thought this may not do it. You did not say where you are right clicking, a file folder or somewhere else. Do not know if this will allow changes to all of the right click menu's.

Thank you....I have looked at the "context editor" and downloaded it - but now I have no idea what to do with it and having read pages of instructions have to confess I don't understand a word of it
I had hoped there might be a file somewhere to just delete a lot of the items that appear when I right click - anywhere - at the moment right clicking on a blank space below give me "undo" then "cut" "copy" "paste" and "delete" followed by 4 items for "Systran" which I would like to get rid of.....any other suggestions?

Afraid I don't have any more suggestions since I do not get those options when I right click on a blank space below.

Hi Jubal- so what do you get? - I get different menus depending what I right click on and also different choices depending on what bit of open space - the menu I indicated was only available in the "reply" box that I am currently typing in. However, all the menus include Systran which is the translation software and I am looking to delete some of those entries (like "update" and "register")....also (as above) the items I want to get rid of are also in the drop down menu in "tools"on the toolbar at the top of IE. Thanks again.

Just right clicking on this page I get the following.
-
From the items you posted it looks like some sort of editor or word processor, with the undo, cut, paste, etc. I guess it might be the Systran whatever that is. What happens if you uninstall Systran?

Hi
This is what I get on a "blank" space - there are other things here I would like to edit out! Will try uninstalling and report back. Thanks

Sorry - saved the file in the wrong format.....

Don't think I can help with your problem, maybe if you uninstall Systran you can get rid of most of that.

Jubal - you have been most patient and helpful. I uninstalled Systran and did a "RegScrub" and it has all "gone away". That was obviously the solution but a word of caution. The programme disc was given away "free" (you pay p and p) by one of those websites that promotes games etc and then offers "rewards" of free software - (take your pick - any 3 free!) and I had thought some translation software could be useful with kids at school - package came with translation English - French - German - Spanish. However the progrmme was very intrusive (see all the posts above) and later I discovered also installed some Spyware which has proved difficult to eradicate.......so, like most things in life, nothing comes for free!!! Thanks again.

Just another comment, it is not only the Free programs that install stuff on your computer, you should even check Commercial programs if they have a custom install use it that way you can sometimes not install some of the crap that they put on the CD's or in their install program.
