XP reinstall woes
Just had to do a reinstall (don't ask). Here's the problems:
1. Always starts with scandisc. Scan disc hangs at 94% complete, so I have to reboot--which makes scandisc start again because it didn't complete. I can cancel out before scan disc starts and the machine runs fine, but what gives?
2. My DSL and dialup icons are dead. When I try to reinstall the PPOE port, the "Use Internet with broadband that you have to sign in on" choice is grayed out, and I cannot reinstall the port.
I went through the registry fix on the MS Knowledge base, but it didn't help. Can you?
3. How do I get rid of that annoying perpetual MSN icon. I forgot.
4. How do I get the boot process to take 10 seconds instead of 90? I got a fix here for that awhile back, but I forgot that, too.
Thanks, mucho.

ok ill do my best
1) http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
look at #82
2) you might look thru the above link for this problem or check here too.http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_abc.htm
3) i presume you are referring to messenger, if you want to remove it, its at the first link, if you want to disable it, go to set program access and defaults in all programs, select the custom tab, scroll down till you see messenger and uncheck it, open outlook express, tools, options, on the general tab uncheck automatically log on to messenger
4) there is a boot tool at the first link also, you can also look at www.blkviper.com there is a comprehensive list of services that you can safely do without, you can also type in bootvis in google, thats m$'s boot tool for xp.
hope this was some help.
