When I try to display the following webpage, the text after the phrase
......following error message....
is not displayed.
The word "Cause" is displayed and every thing else is showing on the page fine.

Not sure if you want a solution or the text, so here's the text:
"ScanDisk was attempting to correct an error, but encountered another error while writing to one of the drive's data area sectors.
ScanDisk can repair this error and detect other damaged sectors on the disk if you choose to perform a thorough test now. However, the data stored in this and any other damaged sectors may already be lost. "
The text is the only RED text on the page - your browser settings for colours may be overriding the web pages settings.

Thanks for the response, I am interested in the solution.
I have recently tried re-installing windows 3.1 into a new windows directory and re-installed Internet Explorer 3.03 after that. Right now, there is not a path to the old windows directory, yet I continue to have the problem.
Still won't display the red colored text.
Apparently, the text is being painted white instead of red on my system and that's why it is not visible on a white background. How can I fix this? Why wasn't it corrected with the software re-installs? Is a DOS file missing or renamed?

Sorry Robert, I'm going to have to bow out on this one - too young to know that OS and IE version! If all else fails though, a format should put it right. Perhaps someone else on the list can help out.

PS - picked up your thread from VirtualDR's front screen - didn't realise what forum it was under - sorry!
Sorry I cant solve your problem but....
sometimes I cant read text because it is same colour as background or jus a bad colour combination. Go to Edit/Select All and I find the text is easy to read.
At least it makes the page readable.

Tried the link and got the same result.

Using the menu in Internet Explorer edit, select all, did not make the missing text visible.It did highlight the other text however.
Try this: Click Tools|Internet Options|General tab|Accessibility button. Select Ignore colors specified on Web pages. Click OK|OK.

My version of Internet Explorer (3.03) does not have the Accessibility options you talk about.
I think I noticed that the iexplore.ini file may be the same as the other one I had before the re-installs of windows 3.1 and Internet Explorer.There are buttons for text and background colors.
There is an option for "use Windows colors" on the general tab along with other checkboxes for: show pictures, play sounds, underline links, standard buttons, address bar, links, text labels,
background bitmap.
The text of the Iexplore.ini can be provided in an email if needed.
(Without a Windows 3.1x machine handy here, about all I can to to help is take some shots in the dark :().

Yes, I tried the link you provided in your last post, the result was the same as my post.....text was not visible where the error message should display.
Once tried to get the Netscape browser going about six months ago but hit other snags and gave up, and deleted everything in the Netscape directory I think. Could try downloading it again I suppose.
If I decide on this, should I remove all traces of Internet Explorer first?
When I was running Windows for Workgroups 3.11, I used to run both and don't remember any problems (other than being s-l-o-w). :)
