My music CD's don't play automatically when I insert then. Program CD's sometimes start automatically. I've checked the CD autorun setting and it "seems" to be set right.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,

Here's an article about a registry item that controls that:
http://support.microsoft.com/default...91;LN];Q155217
It's the same in XP.
Gerdog,
Thanks for trying, but the link you provided didn't work.
Try this:

I had the same problem some months ago, and I could not explain it though I should have.
Have you by any chance changed your settings in Services?
I found out that in Services you have to set the Shell Hardware Detection to Automatic. Once I set it to this, the problem with Autorun CD was gone.
How to get there: Click Start > Programs > Administrative Tools > Services and scroll down to that service and set it to Automatic.
There are some boards/websites out there that recommend disabling all sorts of services, and this one also appears all the time to disable. I followed the advice I found there setting a large deal of services to Disabled. Going deeper into this, I changed my mind and set most of the Disabled services to Manual unless I knew certain services had to be set to Automatic. Now I have only a couple of Services set to Disabled because I know that they will never be needed on my environment. Services that are set to Manual will only start when they are needed and that is good enough.
I hope this helps.
DesertFox, are you sure you didn't mean Start>Control Panel>Administrative Tools? Because I do not see it under Start>Programs.
Jubal,
you are right but I have shortcuts in Start and put a shortcut in Start > Programs as well. Just so, no particular reason, maybe to have choices.:)
OK, I don't have your shortcuts. Thanks.
