Screensaver Problem

I Have a question regarding using screensavers. I currently have screensavers disabled and have to turn off my monitor after use because it seems to be conflicting with something and when I go back to activate mouse and use the computer, I get a fatal exception blue screen. I thought it might be because I was using a screensaver I had downloaded and thought maybe it was too much for my system, so I then went in a selected one of the basic savers that came installed on my Windows 98 Second Edition and it still does it. There are a few times it has even caused the fatal exception screen without the mouse being activated or used again. When I set the saver and walk away, it all looks fine, but when I return later and begin using the computer, the screensaver goes away and the first link or icon I click on to begin browsing, is when the blue screen comes up. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

What sort of screensaver? Some of those downloadable screensavers can contain viruses. Do you have some up-to-date virus scanning software and have you scanned your machine for viruses?

Are you using one of those OpenGL ones that come with Windows like 3D Text? We had many a problem with this type of Screen Saver on our users work computers. BSOD went away.

It doesn't matter which type of saver I use. From the basic scrolling test to basic snow scene. I tried using only the ones which came on my machine and it still does it with those also. I do have an up to date virus checker, matter of fact two of them. I ran my complete virus scan only yesterday and do it on a regular basis as well as updating the virus definitions and etc. This problem has been going on for several months and I have just decided to get it resolved so I don't have to keep turning my monitor off. MY OS? Are you pertaining to my operating system? All my system info is in my original post. If OS means something else, please let me know as I still have lots of technical terms and abbreviations to learn.

Finding a few things on FBWin95.vxd dealing with McAfee AntiVirus...are you running MAV??

Found this little tid bit - If you are running with an AMD chip, you should also note that there have been quite a number of reports of a faulty L1 cache (the cache on the chip). Go into your computer's BIOS (see your handbook for instructions), and disable the Level 1 cache. If this resolves your problems, consider buying a new CPU.

In the error message vxd says its one of the virtual drivers. Most likely something with the video card. But the fbwin95(01) seems to almost imply that one of the drivers wasn't updated to win98.
I had the oe at 0028 as part of an error I was recieveing and from the trouble shooter what I wound up doing was , go into control panel, select display, click on settings tab, click on advanced tab, then click on performance tab and set the hardware accelerator to none. Computer rebooted and the probem cleared up and so then I played around with a little and I have it a couple notches above none but for some reason when at full I have problems. Don't know if this is the same problem or not but that 0028 seems to point in that direction. I am not a tech but that is what worked for me. I am sure there is something else that needs to be fixed so I can set it back to full but so far I haven't figured out what...... Good Luck.....

I appreciate all the help and advice! I bought my computer with Windows 98 already installed and thats why it throws me when it has a reference to a windows 95 driver in the error message. I'm going to try the things you all have mentioned! Keep your fingers crossed and thanks again! :)
