Video card and power supply

I have been having some video issues with a 32Meg Hercules Prophet PCI card, where the video works fine for a bit, and then randomly screws up during games and graphics demos.

I thought it might have been a IRQ conflict, so I switched around the card until it ws only sharing IRQs with PCI steering (before it had 3 other shares!) but still the same issues.

My question is, can an insufficient power supply cause video problems ?? I noticed the other day that my PS is 200W, and read that the recommend PS for the video card is 250-300W. Would a new PS fix the problem ?

It would help and I'll bet the darn thing is overheating. Mine did untill I put a Blue Orb fan on it. So set a house fan to blowing on it and see if it runs ok. If it does you need more cooling for the card.

Thanks for the tip, but the house fan didn't make any difference. The video card has its own little fan on top of the processor too. I will try and borrow a power supply to see if it will change anything.

I had the same problem with a ATI 32 meg video card and 200 watt power supply My games and photo programs after a brief period of running would mess up. what brought this to light was
I opened 2 drives at the same time, and they opened really slow and my whole system slowed down. there was a post that gave a break down of what each addon took and how much it wattage was required .With all I had installed my power supply was barely meeting the minimum requirements. upgraded my power supply no problem since

The +3 and +5V added together should equal a minimum of 150watts. A 300 would be a good start as a minimum sized ps.
